INFLUENCE OF STUDY SKILLS ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT OF ADOLESCENTS IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE

Abstract


This study examined the influence of study skills on career development of public secondary schools in Anambra State. The study was guided by two research questions. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 5236 adolescents in secondary schools in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The sample size was 524. Proportionate sampling technique was used to determine the sample population. Self-structured questionnaire titled, Influence of Study Skills on Career Development in Public Secondary Schools Questionnaire (ISSCDIPSSQ) was the instrument used for data collection Cronbachs Alpha was used to determine the reliability of the research instrument which yielded an average coefficient of 0.86. The data collected were analyzed with descriptive statistics which involved mean and standard deviation scores. The findings of the study revealed that by integrating note-taking and time management strategies, professionals can achieve sustained career progression and effectiveness. The study recommended that teachers and professionals should consistently review and update their notes to reinforce knowledge retention, enhance teaching efficiency, and improve lesson planning and career development. Educators, should adopt various note-taking techniques, such as outlines and summaries, to improve organization, enhance comprehension, and optimize efficiency in professional activities.
