Abstract

This study investigated the effects of teacher-modification package on Upper Basic II teachers’ lesson preparation in Basic Science and Technology in Kauru, Kaduna State Nigeria. Two research questions were posed and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Quasi experimental research design was adopted to guide the study. The population of the study is made up of 97 Basic Science and Technology Teachers in Kauru LGA. Simple random sampling techniques was used to obtained the sample of 26 Basic Science and Technology Teachers. The instrument for data collection was lesson preparation competency scale (LPCS). The instrument was validated by two experts in science education and one expert from test, measurement and evaluation.  After scrutiny of the experts, the kendall’s coefficient value of 0.74 was obtained. Kuder-Richarson method of reliability was used during pilot study outside the study area to establish the internal consistency of LPCS items and the coefficient index of 0.89 was obtained. Descriptive statistics of percentages was used to answered research questions. Inferential statistics of T-test and analysis of covariate (ANCOVA) was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. Findings of the study revealed that teacher-modification package improved lesson preparation competency of teachers in Basic Science and Technology in Kauru, Kaduna State. This study among others recommends that Kaduna state government under ministry of education should organize a capacity building training for in-service teachers on the use of teacher-modification package in order to improve the teacher lesson preparation in Basic Science and Technology in Kaduna state.
