Abstract

This study examined the influence of principals’ administrative skills on school climate in secondary schools in Enugu State. The study was driven by two research inquiries and evaluated two null hypotheses at a significance level of .05. It employed a descriptive survey research design. The study encompassed a population of 8,588 participants, including 295 principals and 8,293 teachers. The sample size was 859 participants, with 30 principals and 829 teachers included. The instrument for data collection was a researcher structured questionnaire titled “Influence of Principals’ Administrative Skills on School Climate Questionnaire (IPASSCQ)”. The instrument for data collection was validated by three experts. To ensure the reliability of the instrument, Cronbach alpha statistic was used which yielded .81 and .79 with an overall reliability estimate of .80. The research questions were answered using mean with standard deviation, while the hypotheses were tested using t-test statistic. The findings of the study revealed that principals’ communication and time management influence school climate to a great extent. In view of the findings of the study, the researcher recommended that government should organize seminars and workshops in order to prepare principals to be more open to discussions and to be more self-confident, by providing them with the skills needed to establish positive effective communication with their principals.
