Toye Manuwa (PhD)

Abstract

Political corruption is a major challenge that undermines effective governance in Nigeria. This study aims to explore the ramifications of political corruption on various aspects of governance, such as public service delivery, accountability, transparency, rule of law, and democratic consolidation. The study adopts a literature review approach, using related texts, books, articles, literatures, journals and document analysis as data collection methods. The study explains how political corruption is embedded in the Nigerian political system. The study submits that political corruption has negative impacts on effective governance in Nigeria, and that it erodes public trust, weakens institutions, and hampers development. The study also provides some recommendations on how to curb political corruption and enhance effective governance in Nigeria.
