ASSESSMENT OF IMPLEMENTATION OF BUSINESS STUDIES CURRICULUM IN GOVERNMENT JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN BAUCHI SOUTH GEO-POLITICAL ZONE, BAUCHI STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study assessed the implementation of business studies curriculum in Government Junior Secondary Schools in Bauchi south geo-political zone, Bauchi State, Nigeria. The study was guided by five specific objectives, five research questions were formulated and five null hypotheses were raised. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 10973 and the researchers randomly chosen 500 for the study. The instrument for data collection was a validated structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was pilot tested and Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient of 0.83. Four research assistants assisted the researchers in the data collection using direct delivery approach. The data collected were analyzed using mean scores and standard deviations to answer the research questions. Inferential statistics of ANOVA and independent t-test was employed in the test of null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed among others that Government Junior Secondary Schools in Bauchi south geo-political zone had inadequate infrastructural facilities and human resources for implementation of business studies curriculum in Bauchi south geo-political zone, Bauchi State, Nigeria. The study concluded that inadequate facilities and human resources are some of the factors hindering successful implementation of business studies curriculum in Bauchi State. Based on these, it was recommended among others that Bauchi State government should provide human and material resources needed for implementation of business studies curriculum.
