COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND VIRTUAL LEARNING: A SAGACIOUS PEDAGOGIC PERSPECTIVE

Abstract


This paper discussed Covid-19 Pandemic and virtual learning as its aftermath in some parts of the world especially Nigeria. Although correspondence learning which virtual learning part is of has been in existence for a long time, the presence of Covid-19 brought it to the fore. The trust of this paper is how lecturers were able to communicate with their students through virtual learning in this pandemic period. Four forms of virtual learning platforms were explicated. The google classroom, Telegram, WhatsApp and Zoom. The theoretical framework for this study is Bruner’s constructivism of (1960) which stipulates that a learner should be active and not passive in a teaching and learning process, two thousand (2000) students from the school of languages of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri were reach across board in their various levels and courses but only four hundred (400) students were visible in the internet.  Power failure, and internet reach were among the major obstacles observed. We therefore recommend that there should be improvement in energy supply and network spread from the internet providers among other things.
