TRANSFORMATIVE INNOVATION AND EFFECTIVENESS OF PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN LAGOS STATE

Abstract


This study investigated transformative innovation and effectiveness of public secondary schools in Lagos State. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. This study adopted survey research design. The sample size for this study was 3,057 respondents, comprising 2,806 teachers and 251 principals who were randomly selected across secondary schools in Lagos State. Cluster and proportionate stratified sampling techniques were used in this study. Researcher-designed questionnaires were used for collection of data. Data collected were analysed using inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that there is significant relationship between blended learning and effectiveness of public secondary schools in Lagos State; and significant relationship existed between project-based learning and effectiveness of public secondary schools in Lagos State. The study concluded that transformative innovation and effectiveness of public secondary schools in Lagos State are significantly related. The study recommended among others that government should train secondary school teachers and principals in the design and delivery of blended learning experiences; and the curriculum planners should integrate project-based approaches across all the subjects in secondary schools.
