Abstract
There is hardly any nation that grows above its teachers or the quality of education that is bed-rocked for its citizenry. Ensuring however that a country attains qualitative education requires careful Planning, amongst which involves curriculum Planning and development which is usually envisaged to have the interest of the learner, the nature of the society and the way in which learning takes place as its primed focus. The paper thus sought to x-ray curriculum development in business education, examining its challenges, opportunities and trends. The paper underscored the fact though curriculum development profits the learner and the teacher my providing a lucid course of structure, aligning educational goals with industry standards, fostering engagement, enhancing teaching effectiveness, helping with scheduled planning and setting the pace for learning progress, it is besieged with daunting challenges such as lack of teaching and learning resources, non-availability of school facilities/equipment, lack of qualitative teacher, poor time management, insufficient provision of funds, policy charges and lack of teachers’ involvement in curriculum planning. Consequently, it was recommended that for a nation to develop a sustaining curriculum, attention must be focused on the quality of teachers employed, teachers must rigorously be carried along in the planning of educational curricula, a constant review of the policy document must be considered with the provision of adequate teaching and learning materials that will help translate the theoretical expectations of the document into practicality and equally meet the essence and target of the policy document.
